Some helpful hints:
- Keep your normal routine. Your current pets need their routine to know that all is ok and your new pet needs time to learn the rules of the household and what is expected.
- Take some time before leaving your new pet with any other pets you have.
- Your pet may want to just be left alone without you or your family invading his space while they get acclimated. Let them have their time, and come to you. Keep them in a safe place while they relax.
- New pets will sometimes (usually) poop or pee inside your home when they first arrive because they are nervous and unsure. Don’t panic. Take your pet to the appropriate elimination area and thoroughly clean the spot.
- Do not leave small or minor children unattended around your new pet even if it’s a tiny pet.
- Always keep your pet collared and leashed. Once your pet settles in, walk them often to help them relax and unwind.
